Here's what we're tasting this week:
Tasting: May 16th and 17th, 2008
2006 Villiera Sauvignon Blanc-
A delightful Sauvignon Blanc that is from South Africa and is from
some of the oldest vines on the property. It has aromas and flavors of melon
and citrus. It has the acidity for a simple fish dish but the body to go with
a more complex seafood dish as well.
Regularly $16.50/btl, Today $14/btl
2005 Traversa Barbera d’Alba - The Barbera grape from
the Piedmont region of Italy is one of the most versatile varietals. It can
be pure fruit and light or can even be oak aged and fairly long-lived. This
version has some oak but displays the nice red cherry fruit with a hint of spice.
It is scintillating with spicy pasta dishes.
Regularly $25/btl; Today $21.25/btl
2005 Joan D’Anguera La Planella- The Montsant region
of Spain is a fairly new DO. This wine is a blend and displays aromas and flavors
of red and black berries and pepper spice. It is a value oriented version of
the wines of the Priorat. A superb wine that is excellent with lamb maybe with
some rosemary and roasted potatoes.
Regularly $18/btl; Today $15.30/btl
Valentin Bianchi New Age- This is a wine that has become all
the rage in Buenos Aires. It is served as it is here, over ice with a slice
of lime. It is a fun, refreshing summer wine cocktail. A cocktail best enjoyed
with sunshine and good friends.
Regularly $11/btl; Today $9.35/btl
